It was incredible to see Jeremy Brodeur, the son of New Jersey Devils and Hockey Hall of Fame goalie Martin Brodeur, start Monday night’s preseason against the New York Rangers at Prudential Center.
No Denying Seamus Casey Earned a Trip to Prague with the Devils
For many years, his father entertained the fan base with his highlight reel saves and great puck-moving ability, backstopping the Devils to three Stanley Cup Championships and five finals in the Stanley Cup Final.
New Jersey fielded mostly an AHL club, with the main squad in Prague, Czechia, for the Global Series. So Jeremy Brodeur got the call between the pipes. And like his father, Jeremy did not look out of place in the crease wearing the Devils sweater on Monday night.
Jeremy Brodeur stopped 29 of 30 shots faced in the evening, including this beauty early in the first period on Rangers forward Adam Sýkora.
Like father, like son. ?

As Devils MSG Broadcaster Bill Spaulding mentioned during the broadcast, his initials, Jeremy’s, and all his kids’ initials were on the back of Martin Brodeur’s mask. Before every game, Marty Brodeur kissed each initial—another cool moment from the preseason.

It was an exciting day and night for Brodeur. As he said before the game, the nerves would be there before he took the ice before warmups, understanding how special the moment would be to play in the same building as his father did.
Early Takeaways From the Devils’ First Two Preseason Games
“I think when I step out for warm-ups, it’ll be pretty surreal, but you know to gets a play, a game in a Devils uniform in this building will be pretty cool, Brodeur said. “I’m just really excited for puck drop, and once it’s game on, it game on, so excited.”
As he said post-game, he felt the nerves coming out of the tunnel, leading the club for warmups. He settled in, and the Devils AHL Utica Comets team played a solid defensive game against the Rangers. Along with the memorable save, he had a save later on in the game, stopping the Rangers on a 2-on-1, similar to how his dad played goalie all those years in the NHL.
