There were a lot of major headlines coming out of the North American Player Tour in Vegas. Still, none might be bigger than New Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes telling the media when asked about playing with his brother, Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes, that “yeah, I’d love to play with him.”
I asked Jack Hughes about whether he talks to his brother Quinn about his future and possibly playing together.
“This is the headline question, you know?,’’ Jack smiled back.

“Honestly, I’m not afraid to say it. Yeah, I would love for Quinn to — eventually I’d love to play with him. And whether that’s in New Jersey or at what time that takes, at some point I want to play with Quinn. But yeah, that’s the question going around. They talk all day about it up in Vancouver, you know? But yeah I’d love to play with Quinn at some point,” Jack Hughes told the media.
Devils Rumors: Does It Make Sense For New Jersey To Trade for Quinn Hughes?
This has added fuel to the fire of speculation surrounding the future of Quinn Hughes in Vancouver. Remember, it was President Jim Rutherford who started the speculation at the end of last season, talking about how the Hughes brothers wanted to play together.
“He’s said before he wants to play with his brothers, and that would be partly out of our control — in our control if we brought his brothers here,” Rutherford told the media at the end of the season.
This has lit a firestorm at least across the Eastern Media, tying the Hughes brothers together to New Jersey or other teams like the Detroit Red Wings, and some have even linked the Toronto Maple Leafs. But as DevilsNation.com has reported, from the minute these comments have come out, there is no rush for Quinn Hughes to make a decision. He wants to let the season play out in Vancouver.

Not to mention any team trading for him can’t start negotiating a new contract until July 1, 2026. Would a team give up assets to get a player like that, not knowing whether he wanted to sign there with them or not? Probably not. And what if the Canucks are a good team this season and get back to the playoffs?
Could Quinn Hughes Actually Come to New Jersey and Play with His Brothers?
That is what Quinn Hughes’s main focus is right now. And as Rob Simpson of VancouverHockeyInsider.com points out, the love between the brothers is strong. There is a chance Quinn Hughes could head east one day to play with his brothers. But nothing is gonna happen until the Canucks captain sees what is going on with the team. Everyone will work themselves into a frenzy, forgetting that, similar to Sidney Crosby with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Quinn Hughes holds all the cards.
Nothing matters until Quinn Hughes decides what he wants to do. But most of the noise is not coming from his brother Quinn, as Jack Hughes stated on Tuesday with the media,
“At the end of the day, he’s either gonna stay or he’s gonna go,” Jack said. “He still likes it there. Quinn’s not the one making any noise. Quinn has one focus — and that’s go to Vancouver, play elite hockey and get in the playoffs.”
Again, until a decision is made by the player on what he wants to do, barring his career moving forward, everyone should relax until next summer. Quinn Hughes is a member of the Vancouver Canucks until he isn’t. And who’s to say he doesn’t stay?
Everyone Needs To Pump The Brakes on Quinn Hughes to the Devils Talk
Update: Canucks captain Quinn Hughes is in Vegas as part of the NHL North American Player Media Tour. He was asked about what his brother Jack Hughes said about playing together one day.
“He’s my brother. What’s he supposed to say, first of all? Like, ‘I don’t want to play with him, you know?’ …
I mean, we have contracts and whatnot. He’s on a different team. Would it be fun to play with those guys at some point? Of course.
I think if you guys (reporters) have brothers, you guys would say the same thing. But we do have contracts. I’m excited to be in Vancouver, and I feel like last year was a little bit of failure. So I feel like I got things to do there. And I know Jack loves Jersey, and he’s got stuff to do also.”
As Quinn Hughes said, his brother is being authentic, similar to what Jack said about Quinn. But Quinn Hughes continues to show that this is a non-issue, and people are making it more of an issue than it needs to be.
