Simon Nemec buried a wrist shot at 2:58 of overtime to lift the New Jersey Devils to a 3–2 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night, pushing New Jersey to a franchise-best 9–1 start on home ice.

Nico Hischier set up the OT winner and delivered a standout performance with a goal and two assists, giving him nine points over his last five outings. Timo Meier scored for the third straight game and added an assist as the Devils improved to 15-7-1 on the season.

For St. Louis (7-11-6), Cam Fowler had a goal and an assist, while Robert Thomas scored a power-play marker — his 12th point in 15 games. Jordan Binnington made 26 saves in the loss, while Jacob Markstrom turned aside 21 shots for New Jersey.

With the game tied early in the third, the Devils faced a significant challenge, killing off a four-minute double minor to Ondrej Palat. New Jersey’s penalty kill was sharp, allowing only four shots during the extended Blues’ man advantage.

Hischier tied the game late in the second period on the power play, finishing a setup from Meier and Luke Hughes. That answered Thomas’ tally, which had given St. Louis a 2–1 edge at 14:37 of the frame.

Fowler opened the scoring just 2:16 into the game before Meier answered midway through the first on a feed from Hischier.

New Jersey improved to 4–1 in overtime this season, while the Blues fell to 0–5 in games decided past regulation. St. Louis wrapped up its most extended road trip of the season with a 1-1-3 record.
