Nico Hischier capped a two-goal night by scoring on a breakaway 3:42 into overtime, pushing the New Jersey Devils to a 3-2 win over the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday night.

After taking a lead pass from Jack Hughes, Hischier raced in alone on goaltender Philipp Grubauer. With Seattle’s Matty Beniers closing in, the Devils captain shifted to his backhand and slid the puck past Grubauer. The goal was Hischier’s team-leading 15th of the season.

Cody Glass also scored for New Jersey, while Jacob Markstrom turned aside 15 shots. The Devils followed up a 5-2 road win in Minnesota on Monday that snapped a four-game skid.

Seattle received goals from Jared McCann and defenseman Adam Larsson, and Grubauer finished with 23 saves. The Kraken continued a road trip that began with a loss at Carolina and included a win over the New York Rangers.

McCann tied the game on a power play at 5:06 of the second period, converting a rebound just 1:33 after Hischier had given New Jersey the lead with a power-play shot from the right circle.

Glass opened the scoring less than a minute into the game after winning a faceoff and burying the rebound of Dougie Hamilton’s shot. Larsson answered later in the first period, stepping into a shot between the circles to even the score.
