New Jersey Devils Teammates Will Play Against Each at Four Nations Faceoff

The New Jersey Devils will be represented at the Four Nations Faceoff even before Team USA’s roster is announced. This afternoon, Team Sweden and Team Finland announced their rosters for the upcoming tournament, with Jacob Markstrom and Jesper Bratt representing Team Sweden and Erik Haula representing Team Finland.

Markstrom and Bratt Teammates for Sweden

Devils President and General Manager Tom Fitzgerald brought Jacob Markstrom to New Jersey for a reason. He saw that he could be a number one goalie for the Devils, and he is proving to be that. Markstrom continues to deliver for the Devils, with a record of 12-6-1, a 2.54 goals against average, and a .907 save percentage. He knows how to come up with the big save in the big moment, especially when shots come from a high-risk area.

Markstom is no stranger to the international representing Sweden. He has dawned the Swedish sweater eight times, including winning gold for Sweden at the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship. Markstrom also won a silver medal in 2009 at the World Juniors, playing for Sweden. The last time he put on the Sweden jersey for an NHL best-on-best tournament was the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, where he won a bronze medal. He won a bronze at the 2010 World Juniors and 2010 World Championships. In addition, he played for Sweden at the 2018 U-18 World Championships, along with the 2016 and 2019 Men’s Worlds.

This is just the second time Jesper Bratt will play on the big stage for Team Sweden. The last time was at the 2019 World Championships. But for the most part, Bratt only played for Sweden in the lower levels, u-18s, and Ivan Hlinka (now the Gretzky-Hlinka) Tournament. Bratt currently leads the Devils with 35 points (12 goals and 23 assists). In 499 regular season games, Bratt has 394 points (141 goals and 253 assists). He has six points in 13 playoff games.

Haula To Play for Team Finland


Markstrom and Bratt will see their New Jersey Devils teammate Erik Haula, who will represent Team Finland. He last appeared on the stage at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. He also represented Finland five times, including the 2011 World Junior Championships and 2014 World Championship, where he won a silver medal. Haula was acquired by the Devils before the 2022-23 season from the Boston Bruins for Pavel Zacha. Haula has 35 goals and 52 assists for 87 points, including 11 points (five goals and six assists) this season. in 718 regular season games, he has 327 points (147 goals and 180 assists).

Four Nations Faceoff

The Four Nations Faceoff will be a mini-tournament between the United States, Canada, Sweden, and Finland. It is currently scheduled for February 12 through 20 at the Bell Centre in Montreal and TD Garden in Boston.

The Bell Centre will host four round-robin games between Canada, the United States, Sweden, and Finland, highlighted by Canada and the United States on Saturday night, February 15th. The scene will shift to Boston and T.D. Garden for a President’s Day Doubleheader is similar to how the Beanpot is run with afternoon and evening games. T.D. Garden will host the Championship Game on Thursday, February 20th. The two teams with the best tournament record will advance to a one-game Final.
