Bobby Brink, Joel Farabee, and Garnet Hathaway each found the back of the net to help the Philadelphia Flyers build a three-goal advantage and hold off the New Jersey Devils for a 4-2 win on Monday night.
Scott Laughton contributed a goal and an assist, while Travis Konecny and Rasmus Ristolainen each tallied two assists. Samuel Ersson delivered a strong performance in net, stopping 31 shots to secure Philadelphia’s fourth straight home victory and snap a two-game skid.
Dougie Hamilton and Timo Meier scored in a spirited comeback attempt for New Jersey, but the Devils fell short and have now dropped both meetings with the Flyers this season. The teams will face off again in New Jersey on Wednesday.
Brink opened the scoring with a power-play goal midway through the first period, followed by Farabee’s quick tally just 28 seconds later to give the Flyers a 2-0 lead. Hathaway extended the cushion early in the second period, making it 3-0.
Hamilton broke through for the Devils late in the second period, and Meier brought New Jersey within a goal with 1:22 remaining in the game, scoring during a 6-on-5 advantage. However, in the final seconds, Laughton sealed the victory with an empty-net goal.
The Devils were without captain Nico Hischier, who missed the game with a lower-body injury sustained in Saturday’s overtime win against Montreal.
Takeaways
Devils: Despite a sluggish start, New Jersey showed resilience by battling back from a three-goal deficit. However, the team must establish a stronger presence early in Wednesday’s rematch at home.
Flyers: Ersson delivered a poised performance in the net, complemented by a balanced offensive effort. If the Flyers continue to play this way, they could make a serious playoff push.
