Dougie Hamilton scored twice on the power play, and the New Jersey Devils extended their winning streak to seven games with a 3-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Friday night.

Connor Brown added an empty-net goal, and captain Nico Hischier recorded two assists for the Devils, who have not lost since their season-opening defeat in Carolina. Goaltender Jake Allen made 16 saves to improve to 4-0-0.

The Sharks, fresh off their first win of the season — a 6-5 overtime triumph over the Rangers — fell to 1-5-2. William Eklund scored their lone goal, while Yaroslav Askarov stopped 27 shots in the loss.

San Jose struck early with a power-play goal at 2:25 of the first period. With Hischier serving a tripping penalty, Macklin Celebrini lost control of the puck in front, and Eklund capitalized, sliding it past Allen for his second goal of the year.

Hamilton took over in the second period. Just 40 seconds in, with a carryover power play from the first, the veteran defenseman fired a shot from the left circle into the top corner to tie the game. Then, at 9:08, Jack Hughes circled behind the net and fed Hamilton in the slot, where he blasted home his second of the night to give New Jersey a 2-1 lead. It marked the third multi–power-play goal game of Hamilton’s career.

The Devils dominated the second period, outshooting the Sharks 13-0, and Brown sealed the win with an empty-netter — his fourth of the season — with 47 seconds remaining.
