The Philadelphia Flyers strengthened their playoff push with a decisive 5-1 win over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night. Trevor Zegras and Tyson Foerster each scored twice, while goaltender Dan Vladar delivered a steady performance in net.

Philadelphia continues to build momentum late in the season. The Flyers have now won three straight games and six of their last eight. With four games remaining, they sit firmly in the playoff race and continue to close the gap in the Metropolitan Division standings.

Flyers Find Form At Crucial Stage

The Flyers have turned their season around over the past month. Since a loss to the New York Rangers on March 9, they have posted an 11-3-1 record. That surge has pushed them into playoff position after a difficult stretch earlier in the year.

Their current total of 92 points places them within reach of second place in the division. More importantly, it gives them control of their postseason outlook as the regular season nears its end.

Philadelphia has missed the playoffs in five consecutive seasons. The team has not hosted a playoff series since 2018. This late push reflects a group playing with urgency and consistency.

Zegras Sets The Tone Early

Trevor Zegras made an immediate impact. He opened the scoring less than two minutes into the first period, finishing a quick offensive sequence that put New Jersey on the back foot.

He added a second goal just over a minute later on the power play. The tally marked his 25th of the season, a new career high. Zegras has been a key contributor since joining the Flyers last June, and his performance continues to validate that move.

In addition to his two goals, Zegras assisted on another score. He now ranks second on the team with 65 points, underscoring his importance to Philadelphia’s offense.

Foerster Extends The Lead

New Jersey responded midway through the first period when Cody Glass cut the deficit to 2-1. The Devils showed brief signs of life, but the Flyers quickly regained control.

Tyson Foerster restored momentum early in the second period. He scored at 2:46, then struck again just over two minutes later to widen the gap. Both goals came with assists from Matvei Michkov, who continues to develop strong chemistry with Foerster.

Foerster’s two-goal effort brought his season total to 13. His ability to finish plays has added depth to the Flyers’ attack during this late-season run.

Vladar Anchors The Defensive Effort

Dan Vladar provided stability in goal. He stopped 23 shots and limited second-chance opportunities. His performance ensured that New Jersey could not build sustained pressure after their lone goal.

Vladar has been a reliable presence throughout his first season with Philadelphia. The win improved his record to 27-13-7, already surpassing his previous career-high for victories in a single season.

The Flyers’ defensive structure also played a role. They kept the Devils to the perimeter and controlled the pace after taking the lead.

Devils Struggle As Season Winds Down

New Jersey’s loss reflects a difficult stretch to close the season. The team will miss the playoffs for the second time in three years. Recent organizational changes, including the departure of general manager Tom Fitzgerald, signal a period of transition.

Goaltender Jacob Markstrom made 13 saves but faced limited support. The Devils struggled to generate consistent offense and failed to match Philadelphia’s intensity.

Closing Stretch Ahead

Philadelphia now turns its attention to a critical final stretch. Road games against Detroit and Winnipeg will test their consistency, followed by home matchups against Carolina and Montreal.

Each game carries significant weight as the Flyers aim to secure their playoff spot. Their recent form suggests a team capable of maintaining that push.

New Jersey will look to regroup as it prepares to host Pittsburgh in its next game. While the postseason is no longer in reach, the Devils will aim to finish the season with stronger performances.

Philadelphia, meanwhile, continues to build confidence at the right time.
