The New Jersey Devils have successfully completed a trade with the Calgary Flames to acquire goaltender Jacob Markstrom. In exchange for Markstrom, the Devils will be sending their 2025 first-round draft pick (top 10 protected) and defenseman Kevin Bahl.

The Flames are retaining 31.25% of Markstrom’s salary – $1.875 million.

Markstrom, 34, was drafted 31st overall in the second round of the 2008 draft by the Florida Panthers. He has two years remaining on his contract with a $6 million cap hit.

Bahl, 23, was drafted 55th overall in the second round of the 2018 draft by the Arizona Coyotes. He is currently in the final year of his contract with a $1.05 million cap hit and will become a restricted free agent after the upcoming season.

Markstrom solidifies the Devils crease for the next two seasons. Jake Allen is under contract for one more year at $1.925 million. The Canadiens retained 50% of his salary.

The Devils have a projected salary cap hit of just under $72 million. That leaves them with just over $16 million in cap space with 15 players under contract.

Forwards Nolan Foote and Dawson Mercer are pending RFAs.
